(This is a story from Boys’ side, am writing the story as a first person)

First Date, 4th Dec. 2006

First Date: Nothing is better than meeting on a cup of coffee for the first date. And nothing is better than CCD for a cup of coffee. Preeti and I met in the second year of our college. It’s a long story that why we couldn’t meet in the first year so I’m not going into that.
When I saw Preeti for the first time in our Economic class I got to know she is the one whom I was looking for. She was tall, had long hair, whitish complexion, obviously fairer (very) to me, long nose (too long). Now this would sound a bit weird but I always wanted a girl with long nose as my nose is short so this could make a balance for our children. She was pretty and some what silly, sillily prettily girl.

(Scene: when we first interacted we clicked instantly. She appeared interested and after 2-3 meets I asked her for a coffee date, which she accepted. We decide to meet at CCD, Satya Niketan. It was newly opened and I wanted to check it. So just to check it I reached 5 minutes early. She came exactly on time she saw me sitting on a table for two. She asked me hesitantly, ‘am I late’? and looked so worried.)

I smiled not at all dear you are exactly on time. It was me who was too eager to meet you. I came 5 minutes early. I stood up and adjust her chair and signaled her with my eyes to have a seat. She was overwhelmed; she nodded with her eyes and sat. I came back to my seat. I saw she was blushing. She said, Devika was saying you guys have your Math’s class… I nodded. She asked 'so…' I imitated her "SOO…" she laughed really loud; you are bad and punched me gently. She asked me about my family members. When a girl shows interest in your family members it means she is showing interest in you. I provided the details of my family member that I could have provided to any other girl in fourth meeting. She asked how come you land up in this college in 2nd year. I replied, look it was written in my destiny to ‘meet you’ (though I wanted to say “have you” here.) so I’m sitting in front of you. She laughed after 2 seconds. I think this was the time taken by her to understand what I meant. She punched me again and said, I want to know the truth and made a weird face. I told her the entire story. She said hmm… and I was thinking you took migration to this college. I simply smiled.

I opened the menu card and slid out few pages of the CCD menu. These pages are more like a cardboard. If you combine the two pages of CCD menu card believe you me you can write your exams on that. I stopped at Cappuccino and asked her what you want? She said, you order for me. I replied, no, I want you to order. She looked the opened page of the menu and pointed her finger on the mug of a cappuccino and said I want this. I smiled and said for sure and called the waiter and placed the order of two cappuccinos. I didn’t tell her that cappuccino is my favorite as well, if I had to choose I would have chosen the same coz girls do not believe in coincidences. I thought she might think that am saying this to show we have same taste. Anyway,
I turned towards her she has one of these three things kohl, mascara or kajal in her eyes. I have read somewhere that these three are different things. It was close to 12noon now but she was still looking very fresh. I kept looking at her she asked what? I said you are looking pretty. She laughed really loud and covered her face with her hand. After few seconds she uncovered her face and laughed you are a liar and punched me yet again. This time puch was not soft. I screamed you are hurting me Preeti. She immediately touched her ears and said sorry-sorry-sorry million times then rubbed the place where she had punched and said ole-ole-ole chot lag gai. Even a 6 year old could understand she was flirting. I said, it’s ok, do not make a scene cheekily. She laughed
I asked her so you put up near by. She replied yesssssssssssss!! Beware if you are thinking anything fishy. You do not know my family and laughed. I replied, Omg! I’m stuck with a dangerous family am so unsafe. She laughed really loud. Who is unsafe here everyone knows that and winked. I started shying. She noticed this, I don’t what hit her mind, and she said you are cute. Omg I started sulking in the chair.
Just then waiter arrived with the bill. I do not remember when the coffee had arrived when it gets finished. I was soo involved in her I didn’t notice all that. I checked the time 2 hours were passed. The bill was of 90 Rs. I put 100 bucks under the bill and we came out of the CCD.
Later that evening she messaged me and I replied…

Preeti: “I like the coffee very much :P”

Me: “What else did you like?”

Preeti: “A guy :-D”

Me: “That CCD guy :-P

Preeti: “Nope, one whose name starts with ‘K’ ;-P”

And we continue to chat whole night…

Last Date: Pizza huts are best for break-ups. As they (generally) remain less crowded and more suited for some professional talks rather than some romantic talks.

Last Date, 2nd Aug. 2009

(Scene: Preeti and I decide to meet for the last date (if I can call it a date) to have some terms and conditions and decide the future of our relationship as our relationship is an agreement. We decide to meet at Pizza Hut, Vasant Vihar at 11:00a.m. on Sunday morning. I reached the venue on time and find one corner table I wanted to be as far as possible to everyone. Half an hour went pass, I had already mugged up the minutest detail of the menu card. At 12:30 I ordered for my self. At 1:00p.m. She rushed in and placed her giant bag on the table.)

She asked, am I late? I smiled and showed my watch to her, No, it’s just my watch is running two hours ahead. She replied, actually my mom is responsible as I was about to leave for here she told me to get some paneer from the market. I thought matar paneer, I would be the last one to get invitation from her. She asked, are you ok? I replied, yes I’m (you know am not ok, why you asking this?)
She giggled; I want my Kishan in good mood. One thing she definitely knows is how to talk cheesy. I replied, am absolutely fine Preeti… I guess we are here to discuss something serious. She replied, yea! We would come to that but before that I want to say something to you. I wondered what fucking lesson is coming now. I replied, yes what? She said you know how things turned around and paused. I really hate these unwanted pauses. She continued, but we can be friends, friends forever… I thought why the hell you want to be my friend anymore. I said, yes Preeti, why not? We are friends first and we will always be. In this way we can always keep alive our relationship and you never know, if things would turn around again (winked). She replied, I’ll miss you Kishan.
I’ll miss the fuck, I thought. I replied, me too Preeti. I asked her, how is your boy? I actually meant, is the asshole still alive? She replied, he’s alive and sound. I couldn’t believe my ears; did she hear what I thought? Am I thinking too loud?

I asked her to order now. She snatched the menu card under my elbow and asked what you would take; I think one family pizza and one medium pizza would do. We would take one extra veg and one extra cheese with this topping; she pointed her finger on the topping; with one portion of garlic bread and two cokes. I said, Preeti just order for yourself. She asked why? You are not taking anything. You already had your lunch?
I did not answer. She called the waiter and placed her order of 1 med extra cheese pizza with one portion of garlic bread and one coke. After placing her order she turned towards me and asked how Radhika is? I asked her please do no bring her, she’s fine. Then she asked how your gang is? As we use to plant bombs every now and then. I replied they all are fine. We are planning for a get together very soon. She smiled.
Just then my order arrived. She screamed hey! They made the order too quickly. But, where is the garlic bread. She called the waiter. I told her, Preeti this is my order. She dropped her hanky on the table and her mouth was wide opened, a drop of tear came to her left eye.
I wondered what now? I asked, Preeti are you ok! She slammed the cutter on the plate.thatak! This distracted the concentration of one family sitting near by. I gave them a formal smile and behaved it has happened accidentally. They gave me horrible looks. I turned to my table and checked the plate; luckily it had survived the impact. I thanked god internally. I looked at her, she was crying. I thought, if I would say anything, she would slam her phone as well or might throw the plates. I stood up and went to washroom. When I came back I did not find her at her seat her bag was also not there. I thought she has left. I sat back and put one piece of pizza in my plate. It was hot and yummy. I also checked the coke it was chilled. I forgot Preeti and gave my full concentration to the food. I thought food has no mistake in this.
When I looked up I saw she was standing in front of me. My jaw dropped, I put down my pizza and stood up. She did not say anything and slid her chair and sat again. I let out a sigh of relief. I saw few droplets of water on her cheeks which indicated she has washed her face. I was seeing pizzas getting chiller in front of my eyes but I couldn’t do anything. I kept looking at her. She remained seated putting her head down. After some time she looked up and asked, couldn’t you wait for me? I thought you have left, I replied. She screamed ‘what!’ very loudly and burst out of crying. This time she controlled her tears may be she was more worried about her make-up. She said, so only this has left between us. More to herself than to me. She pressed her eyes with palms of her hand and composed herself again. By the way, I was asking in placing of order, couldn’t you wait for me?
I wanted to come straight on this; she had made me wait for almost two hours. I could have died with hunger. Moreover it’s a restaurant not any Satya Niketan Park where one can sit for hours without spending a buck. But I said, I’m sorry I had thought as soon as you would be here you would be the order. And look I have ordered which you have ordered. Actually I had ordered for you only. She checked my order it was exactly what she has ordered except the garlic bread. Anyhow you should have waited for me. This reason is so weird. Only girls think that everything has some or other reason. If you have a solid reason with you, you can carry out any damn thing in the world. Guys believe in 'Just Like That' theory they do not go deep of any useless thing; while girls spend most of their time there only.
I cut one portion of pizza and put it in her plate. I also tear one ketchup pouch and emptied it to her plate. When she picked up the pizza, I got a chance to take 2nd portion of my pizza. Just then 2nd order of the day arrived. I thought if I would have waited for 5 more seconds. I could have that hot pizza in my plate. I was looking at that pizza just then she spoke up. Kishan I don’t know whom am going to marry might be to the one find by my parents. I like you, you are one of your kind. I know am making a mistake by not accepting you but I have my problems you know all. I wondered which problem she is talking about. Her current bf, her career, her broken cell phone, her split hair, her long nose or any other new one. She continued, right now I’m focusing on my career and I would suggest you to do the same. She was sounding like a radio. She picked up one piece of garlic bread. I immediately picked up mine and one portion of hot pizza from the hot pan. This is hot I nodded to myself. She continued, I trust you more than anyone else. My mouth was full of garlic bread, pizza and coke. I was eating like a chauvinist. I nodded to her. I asked waiter for the water. I thanked her for the wonderful pizza. She thought I was thanking her for her crap lecture. She said, can I ask you one thing? I replied why not, she asked do you still love me? Reply truly. I didn’t believe my ears but I couldn’t ask her to repeat her q’n. I got confused is this a trap? Yes that spark is missing in our relationship now. What would be her reaction to my answer? I was getting confused like anything. She stood up. I asked what happened. She replied, I have got my answer. I replied, but I haven’t answered yet! She said, now you need not. Hey! Preeti listen. She said, you listen, here’s the money for my share of pizza. she opened her giant bag and took out her purse from it and placed the money on the table and said, I trusted you more than anybody else and left.

By this she left me. After that evening pizzas never tasted so good to me.

16 months after their last date: let me tell you where are they after 16 months of their last date. Nothing great has happened to both of them. They are still struggling with their careers. Preeti is working in IBM. She’s still with her guy (that asshole rem?) while Kishan is pursuing his MBA from Delhi. Kishan was totally shaken up after their break up. He is totally a changed person now. There are two Kishans living in him. One is happy and other is sad.
